1. Insulin independent :

Crystal Fructose has very little effect on blood glucose and has a negligible effect on the secretion of insulin. It thus offers important advantages in the practical dietary management of diabetes, particularly non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes.

2. Low Glycemic Index:

The GI of food is simply a ranking foods based on their immediate effect on blood sugar levels. A product with higher Glycemic index means greater effect on Blood Sugar Elevation. A product with very Low Glycemic lndex means it has very little effect on Blood Sugar Rise. Therefore Lower the Glycemic lndex (GI) of a product, the safer it is for Diabetics. Glucose has a GI of 100, while sugar has a GI of 65 and Honey a GI of 55. However, levulose has a very Low GI of 19 2. A resent review, overseen jointly by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), endorsed the use of low GI food and also recommended that, in order to prevent the most common diseases of affluence such as coronary heart disease, disease, diabetes and obesity, people in industrialised countries should base their diets on low-GI foods.

3. Improved glycaemic control:

Studies show that glucose levels of diabetics are better controlled on a fructose diet than on sucrose of starch diets. In insulin dependent diabetics, overall mean plasma glucose during a fructose diet was 24% lower than during a starch diet, and 31% lower than during a sucrose diet. Among non-insulin dependent diabetics, mean plasma glucose during the fructose diet was 7% lower than during the starch diet and 10% lower than during the sucrose diet.

4. Fructose and
Gastric Emptying
(for sports persons) :

Fructose used in sports drink enables faster gastric emptying than sucrose or glucose thus helping faster rehydration. The excellent sweetness and flavour profile given by fructose means that the drink tastes good and that athletes will be more like to want to drink the product even before they are thirsty If the athlete waits until thirst beckons before drinking, it will often be too late for the sports drink to have much benefit. In addition, fructose can also be used as a provider of longer lasting energy in sports drinks designed for high endurance sports (long distance running etc.) Fructose also enhances flavours in soft drinks and provides a high degree of sweetness.
